On Thursday the 5th October we had a public speaking workshop with Alan Divine. Alan was a former actor and he was previously in the famous irish soap fair city. When we first walked into the room Thursday morning Alan was already in there, he told us all to sit down and then he moved us all as he wanted a gender balance, but as he was moving us all he did was mumble and point and to be honest I got kind of scared, I think everyone did, but it turned out that it was a joke, thank god. Firstly he asked us our names and we had to say one thing about ourselves. We then played a game where he gave us a joke and we had to stand up and say it to the crowd, but there was a certain way that we had to walk stand and smile. We had to walk powerful strong stand and Granny Divine smile, we then had to think of the audience as our sheep, look at them and tell the joke.
After break we played another game this time we were all in a big circle and we had to pass the clap around butt we could change direction. He then made it harder and we had to learn a dance and a rhyme and we had to pass that around but if we got a move or word wrong we were out, the game was called old king cole, it was good for eye contact and self-confidence. After a long two hours he let us out for lunch.
After lunch we played verbal charades, Alan gave us a piece of paper with a word on it and we had to describe it using words but his main aim was eye contact, to engage with the audience, the game was very fun and I really enjoyed it. He then gave us a homework assignment. We had to write a speech about something meaningful that happened to us.
He came back on Friday the 13th and we had to present the speech to him, I wrote about the time that I broke my arm, we all really enjoyed the workshop and we gained a lot from it too.
